Life is a
trip
I thought venture capital and startups were cool. So I studied finance. Right around graduation, I realized spreadsheets were less cool—and that I had no interest in being someone’s Bartleby.
It was time to pivot. Against my better judgment, I left a safe job offer behind and decided to become a writer. Pitched on freelance contracts, and eventually landed my big break at Grey.
Then, I spent some time at The BSMNT. A real agency located in Indianapolis—above ground and everything. There, I realized I wanted more creative control, so I moved in-house. Enter Better. But only for a short spell—as the entire creative team left due to reasons that probably need no explanation.
Now, I’m at Betterment. Working a Senior Copywriter, taking picture with pigeons, and helping people (myself included) establish good money habits.
What I’m about.
Trying hard.
I like to make work that I’m proud of. That means not being embarrassed to read it to friends. Not that I would. I mean, I have some dignity.
Having fun.
This is a cool job, and I’m grateful for it. Not everyone gets to write a joke and then argue with co-workers about why it’s funny.
Working together.
It’s a team sport. If you want to make good stuff, you have to collaborate and be open to other people’s ideas—even when they’re wildly wrong.
My interests
After being stuck inside, all I want to do is get outside. That usually means hitting a bucket of golf balls. Even after a rough day, it’s like pressing the reset button. Except when I have a case of the shanks, then it’s more like a lesson in humility.
I’m very into 3-day weekends too. And as you probably guessed, I keep a few novels on my nightstand.
